Ethical Guidelines

Code of Ethics

Salud Mental (SM) subscribes to the code of ethics for the actions and performance of those involved in the publication process (editors, editorial board, authors and reviewers) established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

It also complies with the guidelines stipulated by theInternational Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).

Privacy

  • Authors are responsible for guaranteeing the right to privacy of patients by protecting their identity in both the drafting of the article and the images used.
  • No names, initials or hospital medical record numbers, or any other type of data irrelevant to the research that could identify the patient will be used, either in the text or in the photographs, unless this information is essential for the scientific objectives, in which case it may be included in the article provided the patient (or their parent or guardian) provides written informed consent (Concern) for its publication. Salud Mental only waives this requirement when research reports are systematic or narrative reviews.

Informed Consent (CONCERN)

When applicable, authors must mention in the “Method/Ethical Considerations” section that the procedures and controls used in patients were conducted after their informed consent had been obtained and indicate the ethics committee and registration number of their letter of approval.

Obtaining Permits

  • Authors who reproduce previously published materials (such as text, tables, or figures) in their article will be responsible for obtaining permission for them to be reproduced in the journal in a timely fashion.
  • Authors must have obtained written authorization from the publisher that published the material and submit a copy to the journal.

Plagiarism Detection

Every article submitted for publication must be original and unpublished and not have been simultaneously submitted for publication in other journals or editorial bodies.

Articles must be at least 80% original. In other words, at least 80% of the information must be original in the field of knowledge, regardless of what is cited and referred to.
